[Davenport, IA] – This Independence Day weekend, July 2nd at 12:00 PM, Quad Cities Interfaith and Gamaliel Network’s Civil Rights of Immigrants Campaign are sending the message that immigrants are as American as apple pie…and rice and beans at the doorstep of Senator Joni Ernst Davenport office at 201 West Second St, Davenport IA, 52801!
Quad Cities Interfaith is joining with Gamaliel affiliates across the country to deliver apple pies and rice and beans to the local office of their Members of Congress. Gamaliel is collecting photos from these drop-offs to compile into a national collage. Photos will also be shared to social media with the hashtag #AmericanAsApplePie.
Quad Cities Interfaith is the Iowa and Illinois affiliate of Gamaliel Network, a grassroots network of non-partisan, faith-based organizations in 14 states and 44 regions that trains ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives. Gamaliel builds power to transform the world as it is into a new world marked by equity, compassion, hope, shared abundance, and radical inclusiveness. Gamaliel’s Civil Rights of Immigrants campaign is part of a 15-year commitment to these values.
The apple pie and rice and beans action is a follow-up to a June 21 action during which Gamaliel leaders across the country made calls to their Members of Congress asking for their support of the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 (H.R. 1177/S. 348). Members in several states participated, including 30 calls from members of Quad Cities Interfaith.
