DAVENPORT, Iowa — Scott County is hiring a full-time Corrections Food Service Officer in Davenport at $21.45 per hour, but the application window closes Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 4:30 p.m. Central Time.
The position is with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and includes benefits. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in large-scale food service or food preparation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Scott County accepts applications online only. Paper applications and applications sent by email are not accepted.

The deadline gives applicants until Tuesday afternoon to complete the online application.

The job pays $21.45 an hour and requires food-service experience
The Corrections Food Service Officer helps prepare nutritionally balanced meals while following food-safety and sanitation procedures.
The employee also supervises inmate workers in the kitchen. Duties include training workers on meal production, safe food handling and sanitation, overseeing meal and snack preparation, managing special diets and tracking food inventory.
Scott County requires a high school diploma or GED plus one year of experience in large-scale food service or preparation. The county may also consider an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Two certifications are required after hiring
The person hired must obtain Basic Jail Training certification within one year of starting the job. In addition, the employee must obtain ServSafe certification within six months.
The work takes place in correctional kitchen and food-preparation areas. The position may involve hot and cold temperatures, kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals and interaction with inmates. Employees may also need to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Scott County has other job openings with later deadlines
The county currently lists several other openings, including a part-time bailiff position paying $24.83 to $34.24 per hour and a full-time Assistant Attorney-Civil position paying $88,358.40 to $121,784 per year. Applications for those positions remain open through Sept. 22.
