Moline, ILL – A community health and resource fair will bring free screenings, student supplies, insurance information and fitness activities to Mercado on Fifth on Sunday, Aug. 2.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 423 12th St. in Moline. It will be held in memory of Father Guillermo Treviño Jr., known in the community as “El Padre Memo.”
Free cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes checks will begin at 9:30 a.m. Health and life insurance agents will also be available to provide information during the fair.
“Fifty percent of Hispanics in the United States will develop diabetes, so we are offering free diabetes checks for everyone so they can find out whether they have it and help prevent deaths like my brother’s,” Mariela Treviño said. “My brother’s death could have been prevented if he had known. It is now my mission to help people get tested for diabetes and prevent more deaths.”

The Moline event follows an earlier memorial health and wellness fair held in West Liberty in April in honor of Treviño. That event also connected families with preventive screenings and community resources.
