After two successful gatherings, the Hispanic Professional Network, or HPN, plans to take the relatively new organization to the next level. The group has now elected its interim board members and will now concentrate on getting those who attended the first two free events –roughly 180 different people– into full fledged members with special benefits that will be revealed at the their next event on Thursday, May 3 at the Redstone Room, 129 Main St. Davenport at 6:30 p.m., one block east of the Figge Art Museum.
The program includes live music from Mariachi
Guadalajara from Chicago, a performance form the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico and will conclude with Latin music from local DJs. That event will also include the presentation of the officers and a special guest speaker that is yet to be announced.
According to HPN President Sylvia Mendez, the group is accepting applications from anyone who wants to make contact with others who work with or have an interest with the Latino community.
She says that membership is open to everyone and not just people who work in offices, and that we can all learn from each other.
“It doesn’t matter whether you have a college degree or not, what is important is that the Hispanic community gathers together to mentor and empower each other to further the Hispanic community as a whole,” Mendez said.
To become a member please visit the organization’s website at www.QCHPN.com and download the membership brochure or email Sylvia at [email protected]. Members will also hold a drive on Saturday, April 21 at Habanero’s in Moline from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
