DES MOINES, Iowa — Registration is open for the first fall indoor swim lesson session at Prairie Meadows Pool. The two-week session begins Monday, Sept. 14, and costs $50 per participant.
Classes will meet Monday through Thursday. Families can choose a 5 to 5:45 p.m. class or a 5:55 to 6:40 p.m. class.
Prairie Meadows Pool is inside Reichardt Community Recreation Center at 915 College Ave. It is the only indoor pool operated by Des Moines Parks and Recreation.
In addition, eligible students can pay $10 through the GRASP or YRSP scholarship programs. That is the final class price, not a $10 reduction from the regular fee.
The first session includes eight lessons for $50
The Sept. 14-24 session includes eight 45-minute lessons. Available spaces will depend on the class level, time and number of instructors.

Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 through 5 will be available for children ages 5 to 15. The city will also offer a limited number of preschool classes for children ages 3 to 5.
Placement depends on the swimmer’s age, comfort in the water and current skills. Des Moines Parks and Recreation provides a placement guide with its registration information.
GRASP and YRSP lower the class price to $10
Students enrolled in Des Moines Public Schools may qualify through the Youth Recreational Scholarship Program, or YRSP. Eligibility applies to students who qualify for free or reduced school fees based on household income.
Meanwhile, GRASP serves Des Moines residents who meet household income guidelines. IMPACT Community Action Partnership verifies income and city residency.
Once eligibility is confirmed, Des Moines Parks and Recreation updates the participant’s CivicRec account to activate the $10 price. IMPACT schedules GRASP appointments at 515-518-4770. Questions about YRSP can be sent to [email protected].

Additional sessions continue through December
Des Moines scheduled more $50 sessions for October, November and December. Two four-week sessions begin Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, with classes meeting twice a week.
A Saturday session will run from Oct. 3 through Nov. 21. It includes four morning time options between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Another two-week session will run Nov. 2-12. Finally, the last published fall session will begin Nov. 30 and end Dec. 10.
