Elementary and high schools will welcome families from 4 to 5:30 p.m.; middle schools will open from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Kindergarten starts Aug. 25 and preschool begins Aug. 26.
Davenport Community School District will hold open houses across the district Thursday, Aug. 20, ahead of the staggered start of the 2026–2027 school year.
Students in grades 1 through 12 will return Monday, Aug. 24. Kindergarten begins Tuesday, Aug. 25, followed by preschool on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Open house hours will vary by grade level. Elementary and high schools will welcome families from 4 to 5:30 p.m., while middle schools will hold their events from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Elementary and high school open houses run from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
All district elementary schools will hold their Unpack Your Backpack and open house events Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Central, MidCity, North and West high schools will follow the same schedule.
Smart, Sudlow, Williams and Wood middle schools will open from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Walcott K-8 will welcome families from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Children’s Village West and Hoover will hold their events Monday, Aug. 24, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Other Children’s Village locations will participate in the Aug. 20 open houses at their corresponding elementary schools.
Grades 1 through 12 start Monday, Aug. 24
The district will use three start dates based on grade level:
- Grades 1–12: Monday, Aug. 24
- Kindergarten: Tuesday, Aug. 25
- Preschool: Wednesday, Aug. 26
Most elementary schools will operate from 8 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Blue Grass Elementary will run from 9:05 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Walcott K-8 and Smart, Sudlow, Williams and Wood middle schools will have student hours from 9:05 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central, MidCity, North and West high schools will operate from 8:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.
Children’s Village locations at Hayes, Hoover and West will hold classes from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

School supply lists are available in several languages
Davenport Community School District uses one supply list for all elementary schools and a separate list for middle schools. Both are available in English, Spanish, French, Swahili, Arabic, Ewe and Vietnamese.
Preschool students are not required to bring school supplies. The district also does not issue a standard high school list because materials vary by course.
Suggested high school basics include pens, No. 2 pencils, lined paper or notebooks and a backpack. Each student will have access to a Chromebook or tablet during the school year.
Families who need assistance obtaining supplies can contact the principal at their student’s school. Elementary and middle school offices have reopened for the new academic year.
Davenport students can ride CitiBus at no charge
All Davenport district students, from elementary through high school, can ride regular Davenport CitiBus routes at no charge. A current school ID serves as the student’s bus pass.
Separate school bus transportation is managed by All Town Transportation. Eligibility is based on the distance between a student’s home and assigned school: more than 1.5 miles for elementary students, more than two miles for middle school students and more than three miles for high school students.

The districtwide open houses are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20, four days before students in grades 1 through 12 return to class.
