What if I told you there was a way that you could eat all your Thanksgiving dinner guilt free and go for seconds and thirds with no hesitation? But there is one catch, you have to run, jog or walk a little bit in the morning. In its 30th annual year, The YMCA Turkey Trot presented by McCarthy-Bush will take place, Thursday, November 24th also known by all as Thanksgiving. “This is a great family tradition for so many in our community,” said Bettendorf Family YMCA Branch Executive Director and Turkey Trot Race Director, Missy Huff. “It’s just a great way to start Thanksgiving Day.”
And if a 5 mile run is just a little more than you want on your plate, making its debut this year at the Turkey Trot is the 5k! “Genesis Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is sponsoring the 5 mile race and Genesis Physical Therapy and Wellness is sponsoring the 5k,” explained Huff. And with sponsorship help from Iowa American Water and Republic Services as well, this event shows just how much the QCA is behind such a great event like this. “All their support of the Turkey Trot and the Y’s mission to help those in our community who need it most is completely inspiring and has an incredible impact.”
It seems like Mother Nature is going to show her support for this race as well with temperatures predicated in the high 40’s on race morning. “It’s going to be a great year. Hopefully a record setting year,” said Huff. “Our goal for the race is always 3,000 participants and this year we have a good chance. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 30 year of Trotting in Davenport!”
