Keeping kids of the streets while teaching them responsibility and sportsmanship is what Jeff Perez does. And to help him do this admirable work that helps young people of this community, Jeff Perez invites everyone to their Saturday Night Boxing Fundraiser.
Saturday Night Boxing Fundraiser will be on June 17, 2017 at the Local Union 25, Plumbers and Pipefitters located at 4600 46th Ave in Rock Island, IL. The doors open at 5 PM and the fights will start at 6 PM. The price of the ticket is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For tickets call Mr. Perez at (309) 236-3098 or stop by his gym located at 1607 19th Ave in Moline Monday through Thursday from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
The main event and the rest of the boxing matches, will be with boxers as young as 8 years of age and also those who are in their late 20s. There will be food and drinks for sale. Expect a 50/50 raffle and merchandise raffle. The merchandise raffle will offer an opportunity to win every day useful things such as kitchen ware, sporting goods, t-shirts and other things.
“This year is the 17th year for this [fundraiser],” Mr. Perez said. He added that all the funds raised will be used for traveling expenses for the kids that go to boxing tournaments and showcases.
“I try to keep kids off the streets. Teach them responsibility and sportsmanship,” Mr. Perez explained. He clarified that he sees that nowadays many children do everything except physical activity. Technology keeps many of them tied down, but Mr. Perez sees himself as someone who offers those kids an opportunity to get off the couch and meet the real world that lies beyond the computer screen.
“Not everyone’s gonna be a boxer, but they can learn about life,” he added.
Throughout the years Mr. Perez has coached many kids. Among them there are successes that make him enormously proud, but there also some who chose the wrong path in their lives.
“It’s all about choice,” Mr. Perez said. And he truly offers many a different kind of choice, a choice to be better and choose a better way in life. Every choice has a consequence; this is something Mr. Perez teaches the kids that he coaches.
Mr. Perez has a long order to fill when it comes to helping young people to choose the right path. And the community can help him by going to this fun event and supporting his mission. Saturday Night Boxing Fundraiser is a family event and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the night and the fights.
“In the past we were fortunate with the turnouts. Hopefully people can come out. We see families coming. This is a family environment,” Mr. Perez invited the community to come to Saturday Night Boxing Fundraiser.
