The fight following a loss for a title is never an easy one. But for UFC strawweight, Tatiana Suarez (10-1), being able to be on a Noche UFC card made it a bit easier. “I wanted to get on the last card at the sphere but it didn’t happen,” said Suarez. “So, this is super cool.”
Despite multiple injuries and layoffs, Suarez is still looked at as one of the best in her division. She will take on Amanda Lemos (8-1) this weekend at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas and knows a win might get her right back into title contention due to the recent title vacancy by former champion Weili Zhang this past August. “I think that it definitely can,” said Suarez. “But I’m not banking on it. It’s the same people at the top and we’re all getting better.”
This will be the UFC’s third time having a Noche UFC event where Hispanic culture is put on full display intertwined on a Latin-heavy fight card and Suarez is ready to put her skills on for what she predicts will be a passionate crowd. “I remember going to the first one at T-Mobile Arena and it was electrifying,” explained Suarez. “This is going to bring some real authentic Mexican fans here. I felt like some of the true authentic Mexican fans weren’t able to go to the last one at Sphere because the tickets were outrageous.”
With the title up for grabs in late October in a fight between Makenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba, Suarez knows she just needs to be the best version of herself against Lemos and the rest will fall into place. “I can’t wait to display all my aspects of MMA this weekend,” said Suarez. “I just like being the best version of myself. I like training and it’s not like a job for me. I just love to do it. I just love MMA.”
Tatiana Suarez will face Amanda Lemos this Saturday, September 13th at Noche UFC at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
