LULAC Iowa leaders rallied in Iowa City on Friday March 31 to condemn U.S. Rep. Steve King, who represents Iowa in Congress, for his hateful rhetoric and racist comments toward Latinos, other minority groups and people of non-Christian religions.
Organizers encourage people to boycott Iowa businesses that have executives who have donated to King’s election campaigns in the past.

LULAC wants Iowans to be aware of a petition that was started by a Boone, Iowa, woman that will be delivered to Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream (an Iowa company located in LeMars), AT&T, American Podiatric Medical Association, College Loan Corp. and American Bankers Association requesting the companies stop making financial contributions to King’s election campaigns. In addition, LULAC also wants Iowa grocery stores that currently shelve Blue Bunny products to cease selling the items and remove them from their stores.
“We want to rally everyone behind this cause and to make Iowans aware of the actions of Rep. King,” LULAC Iowa state director Mike Reyes said. “He is supposed to represent our state and our causes, but he does not represent our values and continues to push forward with his own racist and hateful agenda in Washington, D.C.”
