The pandemic put many events on hold last year. But this year the Quad Cities residents can safely enjoy many public events, festivals and parades they have been missing.
Many Quad Citians have attended or heard of an event called Kermes that some local churches do. While in the past St. Mary’s Church in Davenport, IA Kermes took place annually, this year it will happen in St. Anthony’s Church located at 417 N. Main St., Davenport, IA. This event will be on September 12, 2021 from 10 AM to 4 PM. There will be a lot of fun for the whole family to enjoy. There will be music by Tamborazo de Oro and Sonora Sazón de Antaño. There also will be DJ Guerrero. Kids will have fun enjoying the show of payaso Churrumais (clown). The attendees will also be able to enjoy the performance of Ballet Folklorico, Danza Asuncion and Danza Liturgia. And of course, no Kermes is complete without delicious food. Participants can expect some of the tastiest and everyone’s favorite Mexican dishes and snacks for sale at this event.
For everyone’s safety and due to the ongoing pandemic, the organizers of this event kindly ask everyone planning to come out to Kermes to please, wear a mask to this event. There will be hand sanitizer available and every table will have some disinfecting napkins for public use.
“We hope everyone can cooperate with us,” Alicia Nava, one of the organizers said.
She also explained that she would love to see people of all cultural backgrounds and religions because the Kermes is an event for everyone to enjoy.
“Everyone is welcome. No matter your culture or religion, come to enjoy Mexican culture [with us],” Nava invited the Quad City community to their Kermes.
The funds collected at this event will be donated to the parish.
The Kermes is on September 12, 2021 from 10 AM to 4 PM at St. Anthony’s church located at 417 N. Main St., Davenport, IA.
