Jordy served as a devoted and active member of the Marshalltown Police Department from 2014 until his retirement in December 2020. Throughout his career, he was handled by Lieutenant Tom Watson.

Born in Slovakia, K-9 Jordy was a German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix. He received his formal K-9 training at the St. Paul Police Department Canine Training Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. During his seven years of service, Jordy assisted the department in narcotics detection, tracking, officer protection and evidence recovery.

During his tenure with the agency, Jordy played a significant role in the success of the Marshalltown Police Department’s K-9 program. He assisted with multiple arrests and helped locate critical evidence used in criminal prosecutions across the community.

Among his most notable cases were the recovery of stolen money from a local convenience store robbery; the recovery of a weapon, a facemask and a suspect connected to a restaurant robbery; and the discovery of two firearms discarded in the snow from a stolen vehicle.

In recognition of his service, Jordy received a regional “Patrol Case of the Year” award in 2015 for his role in recovering firearms linked to the stolen vehicle case. He also ranked among the top K-9s in the region in narcotics detection, evidence searching, obedience and overall agility. Jordy placed first overall in K-9 obedience in 2016, first overall in narcotics detection, and was a member of the first-place narcotics detection team in 2017 at the United States Police Canine Association regional canine trials.

The Marshalltown Police Department extended its gratitude to community members who supported the K-9 program over the years. The department offered special thanks to Marshalltown Animal Clinic for Jordy’s ongoing veterinary care and to Theisen’s for continued food donations to the Marshalltown Canine Unit.

An additional thank you was shared with Head Trainer Melinda Ruopp for her dedication to Jordy’s career and the Marshall County canine program, as well as Captain Kiel Stevenson for serving as one of Jordy’s favorite training aids throughout the years.

K-9 Jordy honorably served the Marshalltown Police Department and will be deeply missed.
