In Quad Cities there are a lot of restaurants that sell Mexican food. Among all of these restaurants there
are just a few that can say they have been in business for a long time. But El Mariachi restaurant, located at 1317 15th Street in Moline, is a successful restaurant that on Saturday December 15th will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
Twenty-two years ago, Alfredo and Virginia Castro, the owners of El Mariachi, began their culinary career. Before opening the doors of their restaurant, they sold food from their food truck. 12 years later they saved enough money to open their restaurant. In 2002 El Mariachi opened its doors to the public.
“The food that we serve here is homemade. My husband is from Guanajuato and I am from Texas, so the food is kind of a fusion of food from Guanajuato and Texas. We also have traditional dishes like chicken in mole sauce and one of our most popular dishes is pork ribs in chile negro,” Virginia Castro said.
She mentioned that these past 10 years have not been easy. There has been a lot of hard work. There were sad times and happy times, profits and losses and of course, there was the fierce competition of the market. That is why the 10th Anniversary of the El Mariachi restaurant is so special for this couple.
“Even though today the competition is tough, but thanks to our loyal customers, we are still here. It is all because once they enter here and try our food, they keep on coming back,” Mrs. Castro assures.
In order to celebrate their 10th Anniversary Alfredo and Virginia Castro plan to have a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and all guests will be able to try some appetizers and the restaurant will offer drinks and food specials all day. Everyone is invited to celebrate this important day in the history of El Mariachi. The celebration will be on Saturday, December 15th at 4 PM.
