Quad-Cities’ Vershaun Lee fights Saturday to earn spot on U.S. Olympic Team

Rock Island’s Vershaun Lee is scheduled to fight in the championship Saturday afternoon in his quest to go to the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

Lee, fighting at junior welterweight (139 lbs.), has been competing this week at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing in Lafayette, La. Lee, a decorated amateur, was the 2021 National Golden Gloves Champion, the 2020 Summer Festival Champion, and a second-place finisher at the 2020 USA Boxing Elite National Championships.

A veteran of over 300 amateur fights, he is coached by his uncle Ramsey Vesey, of Rock Island, and assistant coach and cornerman Jeff Perez, of Moline.

Lee said Friday evening he has won three bouts this week during the weeklong tournament.
