DES MOINES, Iowa — Sarah Zeidler will join Proteus, Inc. as CEO in mid-October, taking over after Carla Beste served as interim CEO following Daniel Zinnel’s departure in July.
Proteus provides healthcare access, education assistance and job training to agricultural workers and their families in Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana.
Zeidler most recently served as executive director of oncology services at UnityPoint Health’s John Stoddard Cancer Center.
Sarah Zeidler brings experience in community health and leadership
Zeidler has served on the boards of the Iowa Cancer Consortium, YMCA Supportive Housing Campus and American Heart Association.
She was also named to the Business Record’s 2026 Forty Under 40 class and graduated from Lead DSM’s Community Leadership Program.
Her background includes community health, workforce development, financial management and organizational growth.
Carla Beste will continue as Proteus CFO
Beste stepped into the interim CEO role after Zinnel left Proteus in July. She has worked at the organization for more than three decades and will continue as chief financial officer while Zeidler takes over the CEO position.
Zeidler joins Proteus ahead of its annual farmworker fundraiser
Zeidler is expected to begin in mid-October, shortly before the organization’s annual I’m Thankful for Farmworkers Dinner on Nov. 5 in Des Moines.
Proteus was founded in 1979 and will mark 50 years of service in 2029. Its programs focus on healthcare, education and employment support for agricultural workers and their families.
