Gov. JB Pritzker said Aug. 29 that he wants the shuttered Tyson Foods plant in Joslin reopened. He made the comment during a campaign stop at Local Union 25 in Rock Island, joined by state Sen. Mike Halpin and state Rep. Gregg Johnson.
The Joslin plant’s closure put about 2,500 union workers out of a job. Pritzker did not lay out a plan, timeline or funding source for a potential reopening during the stop.

Tyson closed the Joslin beef plant earlier this year, ending jobs for roughly 2,500 union workers in the Quad Cities area. The company has not announced plans to reopen the facility.
Pritzker made the comment during a campaign stop, not a policy announcement
The stop came as Pritzker seeks reelection this November in a rematch against Republican Darren Bailey. Independent candidate Collin Corbett is also on the ballot. Neither Tyson nor its parent company, JBS, has commented on Pritzker’s remarks.
