For the cover of this year’s Gala program, the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present the artwork of Abraham and Adam Perez Zacarias.
Born in Mexico, the brothers moved with their family to Los Angeles, California, in 1988 when they were 6 and 8 years old, respectively. The brothers showed signs of remarkable artistic talent at an early age. In California, they painted murals for the Los Angeles Education District, banks, and private institutions.
In 1998, Abraham and Adam moved to Iowa, where they now they reside in Iowa City. Here in the Midwest, they have created masterful murals and paintings for various establishments and with people from different parts of the world.
Abraham and Adam were commissioned to create the artwork for our Gala program cover. The painting represents the many contributions made to our community by the Hispanic Americans throughout the last century.
In their thought-provoking artwork, you will see how farming and the railroad industry attracted the first wave of Mexican immigrants to the Quad-City area. You will also see how immigrants from Mexico and Central America made food-processing plants thrive in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and up to the present day.
Their artwork tells of the ultimate sacrifice of the eight young, first-generation QC Mexican-Americans from Hero Street, who gave their lives for this great country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Hundreds of their family members have also served bravely in the armed forces.
Thank you, Abraham and Adam Perez Zacarias, for helping us to honor the contributions of the Hispanic community to the Quad-Cities. These contributions were made by proud, caring individuals, and the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to acknowledge them and to keep their memories alive in our hearts.
