The Our Lady of Guadalupe Fiesta in Silvis, Ill. will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27. The fiesta is located at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 800 17th Street Silvis, just off of Illinois Rt. 5 south of the Rt. 92 junction. The fiesta lasts for nine hours between 2 and 11 p.m. From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be dancing by Ballet Folklórico Quetzalcoatl, a professional traditional Mexican dance group based in Aurora; this year marks their twentieth anniversary. Mass will follow from 4 to 5 p.m. outdoors, followed by the crowning of the Fiesta Queen and another round of traditional dances, this time by the twenty-five year old Quad City Ballet Folklórico. It’s unusual to see these two groups on the same day, making this fiesta a must for the lover of Mexican dance.
Finally, beginning at 7 p.m. and going until the fiesta ends at 11 p.m., you can hear live music by Los Mocambos, the Q.C.-based Pancheros band led by Dave Navarro, with a brief interruption for the 50/50 raffle at 9 p.m. There will also be Mexican food and games for the children; attendees are requested not to bring their own food, though a lawn chair would be a good idea, seeing as how all of the events are held outdoors on the parish grounds. Admission to the fiesta is free for children under age 12; the general admission price is $5.
