In its 49th year, the Davenport’s League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 10 will hold its annual fiesta on Saturday, September 13.   As in the past years, the main focus of the event will be the coronation of the LULAC Fiesta Queen.  According to Henry Vargas, chairman of the fiesta, a total of $369,000 has been given out in scholarships since 1978.  This year alone, 8 scholarships will be given out to the candidates.

“15 years ago, we depended on bingo to give out more money for the scholarships,” Henry Vargas said.   Mr. Vargas explained that the scholarships don’t just go to students of Hispanic heritage.
