Muscatine police were still searching Sunday night for Mark Lee Jackson. The 59-year-old Des Moines man is accused of shooting a city police officer during a pursuit Friday.

Authorities consider Jackson armed and dangerous. Police say anyone who sees him should not approach. Instead, call 911 immediately.

Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies said Jackson is wanted on several warrants. One warrant accuses him of attempted murder of a police officer. However, the warrants contain allegations, and Jackson has not been convicted in this case.

The injured officer is expected to make a full recovery, Kies said Sunday. Meanwhile, police have not released the officer’s name.

The pursuit began near Benham Avenue Friday afternoon

A Muscatine County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a vehicle at about 5:12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14. The encounter began near Benham Avenue and Nebraska Street. Police identified Jackson as the driver.

However, the vehicle did not stop. Police said it continued at high speed through residential neighborhoods.

Later, the vehicle crashed. Jackson allegedly got out and ran from the scene.

Officers encountered him at about 5:27 p.m. in the 1200 block of Grandview Avenue. During the foot pursuit, police allege that Jackson fired at officers and struck one of them.

More than 100 officers joined the weekend search

By Sunday, more than 100 officers from 16 agencies had participated in the search. In addition, the operation involved five tactical teams and three drone teams.

An aviation unit and five K-9 teams also joined the operation. Police searched a perimeter of about 120 acres after Jackson fled.

However, authorities had not identified a vehicle connected with his possible movements after the shooting as of Sunday night.

Crime Stoppers offers $2,500 for information leading to arrest

Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities is offering a $2,500 reward. The payment applies to information that leads to Jackson’s arrest.
