SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Morningside University’s free Spanish Film Festival continues Tuesday, Sept. 22, with a 7 p.m. screening of ASCO: Without Permission at UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3709 Peters Ave.
The fall series is free and open to the public. Four films remain on the schedule, with multiple screenings continuing through Nov. 7 at Morningside’s UPS Auditorium and Klinger-Neal Theatre.
The upcoming lineup includes films from the United States, Dominican Republic, Peru and Mexico, along with discussions connected to art, culture and the Siouxland community.
The series is organized through Pragda’s Spanish Film Club and includes Ibero-American films that are not commonly shown in commercial theaters.
ASCO: Without Permission screens Sept. 22 and 26 at 7 p.m.
ASCO: Without Permission, directed by Travis Gutiérrez Senger, will screen Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Saturday, Sept. 26. Both showings begin at 7 p.m. at UPS Auditorium, Lincoln Center, 3709 Peters Ave.
The 92-minute documentary follows ASCO, the Chicano art collective that challenged exclusion from mainstream art, Hollywood and media in Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s.
Saturday’s Sept. 26 screening will also include local artists Amber Hansen and Reyna Hernandez. They will introduce their collaborative work as muralists and lead a talkback after the film.
Their work includes a collaborative mural created with South Sioux City High School students, adding a local Siouxland connection to the film’s focus on Chicano art and representation.

- Saturday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m.: Boca Chica.
- Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.: Drag Invasion — UPS Auditorium.
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m.: Drag Invasion — Klinger-Neal Theatre.
- Thursday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m.: Home is Somewhere Else — Klinger-Neal Theatre.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m.: Home is Somewhere Else — Klinger-Neal Theatre.
UPS Auditorium is inside Lincoln Center at 3709 Peters Ave. Klinger-Neal Theatre is located at 3700 Peters Ave. in Sioux City.

Boca Chica returns to the schedule Oct. 8 and 10
Boca Chica, directed by Gabriella A. Moses, will screen Oct. 8 and Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
The 97-minute film from the Dominican Republic follows a young girl confronting expectations surrounding girlhood and womanhood. The film received the Nora Ephron Award at the Tribeca Film Festival.
SUX Pride joins the Oct. 20 Drag Invasion screening
Drag Invasion, a 78-minute documentary directed by Alberto Castro, is scheduled for Oct. 20 and Oct. 24.
The film follows the cultural impact of a visit by performers associated with RuPaul’s Drag Race to Lima, Peru. SUX Pride Executive Director Brian Meland is scheduled to introduce the Oct. 20 screening at UPS Auditorium.
Home is Somewhere Else includes a filmmaker Q&A Nov. 5
The festival closes in November with Home is Somewhere Else, an animated documentary directed by Carlos Hagerman and Jorge Villalobos.
The film tells the stories of three young people navigating immigration, family separation and life between Mexico and the United States.
A virtual question-and-answer session with two of the filmmakers is scheduled after the Nov. 5 screening. The film will screen again Nov. 7.
The screenings are free and open to the public
Morningside’s fall film series is supported by Pragda’s Spanish Film Club and a donation from Professor Emerita Marty Knepper to the university’s Humanities department.
Pragda’s Spanish Film Club helps colleges and universities bring Spanish and Latin American cinema to campus through subsidized screening programs.
