Mercado on Fifth kicked off on August 26 and has since brought a very nice neighborhood gathering kind of feeling to Friday nights right outside the Boys & Girls Teen Center on 12th street and 5th Avenue.
“It’s great to have a place where people can get together to enjoy a variety of food, music and just see what different businesses/people have to offer.” said Marina Varela a former long time resident of the Floreciente neighborhood.
“Our community needed something positive to bring us together and what better way of doing it on a Friday night when we all could use a break from working all week. It would be nice to have more local Mexican bands and restaurants present.” Varela added.
And that is precisely what is in the plans for Mercado on Fifth.
There will be no Mercado this Friday night due to another event at the B&G Club. But Mercado on Fifth will be back on SEPTEMBER 30th with a performance and salsa dancing class by Sunset Salsa Iowa City and more food vendors, including Flavor Train and Chocolate Manor.
The last 5 dates to close the 2016 Mercado season will be filled with amazing performances, Jumping Houses and more vendors.
