Marshalltown Shooting Investigation – UPDATE – ARREST MADE!

On Monday, February 15, 2021, at approximately 3:07am, police officers responded to the Casey’s located at 111 North 3rd Avenue, to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, police officers located an adult male who was suffering from a gunshot wound. That person has died.

The victim is identified as Michael Ray West, age 48, of Marshalltown. Mr. West is an employee at the Casey’s on North 3rd Avenue and was working at the time of this incident.

On February 15, law enforcement personnel executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Bromley Street in Marshalltown. A suspect was identified in connection with the search warrant execution. Marshalltown PD officers and DCI special agents have arrested Rocky Dean Trujillo, age 20, of Marshalltown. Trujillo is being held at the Marshall County jail pending an initial court appearance.

Trujillo is charged with the following offenses:

  • Murder – 1st Degree (Class A Felony)
  • Robbery – 1st Degree – 2 Counts (Class B Felony)
  • Going Armed with Intent (Class D Felony)
  • Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • Trafficking in Stolen Weapons (D Felony)

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with this investigation. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshalltown Fire Department and Unity Point Ambulance Service all responded to the initial 911 calls for this incident.
