LULAC Council #5285’s Mexican Independence Day Parade and Fiesta returns to Runner’s Park in East Moline on Sunday, Sept. 13, after a one-year absence. The parade begins at noon on 15th Avenue, followed by a fiesta that runs until 9 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit the council’s college scholarship program.
LULAC Council #5285 canceled the parade last year, citing safety and security concerns for the immigrant community, including concerns about potential ICE activity, along with other logistical challenges.
The parade runs from Third to 10th Street starting at noon
The parade travels along 15th Avenue in East Moline, from Third Street to 10th Street. Mike Reyes, a founding member of LULAC Council #5285 and current member of LULAC Council 10, will serve as grand marshal.
Vendor and parade-entry applications close Sept. 7
LULAC extended its deadline for parade participants and non-food vendors to Monday, Sept. 7. Applications are available at lulacmoline.org. Food vendor applications are closed, and the council is not accepting additional food vendors. More than 40 vendors and exhibitors are expected at the fiesta, along with a car show by the Latin Persuasion Car Club and children’s activities from the Los Chavalos low-rider bike club.
The council has awarded more than $201,000 in scholarships since 2014
LULAC Council #5285 has awarded more than $201,000 in college scholarships to more than 220 Quad Cities students since 2014. The council awarded $20,800 to 27 students in 2025, and $14,150 to 26 students this year.

- 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.: Conjunto La Razón
- 7:30 p.m.: DJ Guerrero
- 9 p.m.: Raffle winners announced; event concludes
Volunteers can sign up for shifts at volunteersignup.org/39BBP. The fiesta runs until 9 p.m., when raffle winners will be announced.
