LULAC Council #10 of Davenport announced today the election of their officers for the year 2007. Elected officers were:
President – Ernest Rodriguez of Davenport
Vice-President – Idelfonso Sierra of Davenport
Secretary – Adolph Lopez of Davenport
Treasurer – Marie Sierra of Davenport
Parliamentarian – Salvador Lopez of Davenport
Chaplain – Benita Caldwell of Coralville, Iowa
Sgt. of Arms – Henry Vargas of Davenport
Newly elected officers will be sworn into office at the LULAC State Convention to be held in Fort Madison, Iowa on Saturday, May 20, 2007. LULAC Council #10’s primary goal is to raise funds for their Scholarship Fund. The Council has awarded $358,965 in scholarships since 1978. Funds are raised by Council #10 locally through a bingo operation at its Activity Center, leasing of its hall for special events, the Annual LULAC Fiesta, and corporate and individual donations LULAC Council #10 of Davenport was founded in 1959. The Council sponsors other activities such as providing educational forums, seminars, workshops, meet-the-candidates forums, seminars on immigration and income tax matters, and workshops on leadership development and civic participation. LULAC members have been called upon to represent the Hispanic community by the city, school district, and to serve on community committees and commissions.
