Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack was chosen last night by his fellow members of the House Education and Workforce Committee to serve as Ranking Member, the senior most Democrat, on the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education. Loebsack has served on the Education and Workforce Committee since coming to Congress in 2007.
“Having grown up in poverty, I know that education can change lives and was the key to accomplishing what I have been able to today. For our country to continue to be the great power that it is, we must ensure all children have access to a high-quality education from preschool to college,” said Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education Subcommittee Ranking Member Dave Loebsack. “Iowa has a long history of providing a top-notch education and I look forward to bringing that experience to the subcommittee. I also want to thank Ranking Member Miller for his years of service to this Committee and to the nation. I look forward to working with him to move critical legislation forward.”

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over elementary and secondary education initiatives, including the No Child Left Behind Act; early childhood and preschool education programs, including Head Start; special education (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act); teacher quality and teacher training; scientifically-based reading instruction; vocational and technical education; and school lunch and child nutrition programs.
