In just week from today at 8am on Saturday, July 28th, the 44th Annual Quad City Times Bix 7, will take over Brady Street and many other streets in Davenport, IA and this year’s theme is family. “We’re promoting a healthy lifestyle and family togetherness,” explained Bix Operations Director, Ellen Hermiston. “Our out and back course offers 20,000+ spectators the chance to watch the race unfold.” Participants can chose to run the full seven mile Bix run or chose the Quick Bix which is a two mile fun run where runners still get to participate in running up Brady Street hill. There is also the Junior Bix 7 for kids 12 and under where there will be various distances depending on their age.
In addition to Saturday’s big race, The Running Wild Sports & Fitness Expo will take place Thursday, July 26th from 5pm-9pm and Friday, July 27th from 9am-9pm in the RiverCenter South Hall in Davenport. The expo is the official race headquarters for the Bix and runners can pick up their packets during those times.
With family being the theme, Bix organizers always take extra measures to ensure the safety of the runners and the many spectators watching. “Our Genesis medical team, working with us for the 38th year, is always prepared for the weather.”
The Bix also supports the, “We Honor Veterans Program”, a national program led by the Veterans Administration and hospice care providers across the country, who honors veterans nearing the end of life by celebrating their military service. The program is provided locally by Genesis Hospice.
With so many events going on during the summer, the Bix 7 has always made itself stand out as a premiere race and event in the Quad Cities, and Hermiston credits that to all those in the community who make this excellent event possible. “The community and sponsor involvement at all levels is stellar,” said Hermiston. “The interaction with all the people who make it possible: sponsors, the City of Davenport, Davenport Police Dept., committee chairs, volunteers and of course, the runners and walkers. The Bix 7 is a social event, bringing people together!”
