US Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill. announced on Saturday, Feb. 10 that he was running for president. He is hoping that his young age (46) and only 3 years as a US senator will not be used against him. Obama has actually made it look like a strength claiming that he is a Washington outsider.
“I know I haven’t spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington.” Obama said on the day of his announcement.
“We’re distracted from our real failures, and told to
blame the other party, or gay people, or immigrants.”
“But I’ve been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change.”
He mentioned in his announcement that we cannot pinpoint all of our problems on just one thing.
“We’re distracted from our real failures, and told to blame the other party, or gay people, or immigrants.” Obama said.
Obama served the city of Chicago as a state senator for eight years before being elected to the US senate. His wife Michelle and his two daughters Malia 8, and Sasha 5 still live in the south side of Chicago today. Obama was born in Hawaii to a Kenyan father, Barack Sr. and Ann Dunham of Kansas.
Obama is making the War in Iraq his main issue and is pushing for legislation to end the war as early as next year. Obama is not able to compete with Hillary Clinton financially so Obama is trying to level out the campaigning through doing the next best thing, the internet. In our next issue we will have a feature on how the internet is changing traditional campaigning.
