Iowans to Protest Immigration Ban and Border Wall

Thursday, February 2 at 5:00pm at the Iowa State Capitol

DES MOINES—In response to the Trump administration’s recent executive orders to temporarily ban travel from 7 Muslim-majority countries and to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico border, Iowan activists and community leaders will hold a rally and march at the Iowa Capitol on Thursday.

President Trump’s executive action has sparked protests across the country—including here in Iowa—as people have been detained after previously being approved to come to the United States.

It’s time for Iowans of all backgrounds to stand up and fight these Muslim and immigration bans and say enough is enough,” says community organizer and Muslim-American Nadia Ali. Ali is a Des Moines resident born in Sudan who is organizing Thursday’s rally and march. “We hope that Iowans from across the state will join us Thursday night to show support for our Muslim community, our refugees, and our immigrant community members of all countries of origin. We must speak out once and for all against anti-Muslim rhetoric and attacks on our vibrant immigrant communities.”
