If you are interested or if you know someone who might be interested in becoming a police officer you have to consider taking the exam. Before physical and written examinations take place on February 11, 2017 at 8:00 AM at United Township High School, interested persons can pick up the applications available at the East Moline City Hall Annex, located at 912 16th Ave in East Moline. The application can also be found online at www.eastmoline.com. Applicants must turn in their applications to City Hall Annex by Monday, February 6, 2017 at 4:00 PM.
The interested have to be 21 years old and have high school diploma or GED. Applicants have to be U.S. citizens and have to reside within a 19-mile radius from city hall 18 months after getting this job. The physical part of testing involves a ½ mile obstacle course that will have a 5-foot-high wall and a dummy drag. The applicants that pass agility test will move on to the written part of the examinations that will take place that same day. The written part of test is an aptitude test that is standardized and does not require or assume that applicant has knowledge of any specifics about law enforcement.
“The applicants with the top 20 scores will be given an oral interview with the police and fire commission. This interview is worth 50% of the eligibility score and the exam is also worth 50%. The candidates will be ranked 1-20 and the list will be good for 2 years. As openings are available, the top candidate(s) will have background investigations be completed on them,” Chief John Reynolds of the East Moline Police Department explained.
The next step for potential police officers will be to complete a medical exam, drug and alcohol testing, and even polygraph testing.
“We do anticipate hiring one officer in April,” Chief Reynolds said.
