The Iowa governor should welcome immigrants to Iowa, not send state police to the border

Iowa City, Iowa — Manny Galvez, a North Liberty resident and Catholic Worker released the following statement after the Iowa governor announced Thursday she was sending the Iowa State Patrol to the U.S. / Mexico border:

“This is crazy. The governor denied welcoming children and now she is sending the police. How shameful and an absolutely irrational waste of state resources.”

The Iowa City Catholic Worker has helped admit ten refugee families into the country since January 20, after they were initially expelled back to Mexico under the current presidential administration’s Title 42 order. The group has eighteen more cases pending with the American Civil Liberties Union.
