Immigrants who are eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship will be offered free assistance filling out their N-400 Citizenship Application all across the state of Ill. during the month of July.  Immigration attorneys from The Immigration Project and immigration specialists with the New Americans Initiative and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and volunteers will be helping people at regional clinics at the following places: July 5th at Lincoln

Land Community College, 109 White Pine Lane in Beardstown; July 14th at Youth Service Bureau, 12 Gunia Dr. in La Salle; and on July 19th at the Boys and Girls Club, 338 6th St. in Moline.  They will also visit six other locations in Ill. on other dates.

All appointments must be scheduled in advance by calling toll free 1-800-298-3235 extension 104 or 107.  Organizers say that because changes will occur in some scheduling, that it is very important to call in advance.

With the fee to apply for citizenship going up from $400 to $675 on July 30th, immigrants are encouraged to apply now before the drastic price increase goes into effect.

People may also call to find out if they are eligible to become naturalized citizens.  You may also go online at www.NewAmericans-il.org where you will find plenty of resources and answers regarding the citizenship process.  You may also look over frequently asked questions, find sample U.S. history questions that may be on your citizenship test and a list of sentences that immigration officials may ask when conduction your interview.
