Last August 12 was the closing ceremony for the Summer Olympics. During 17 days of competitions there was a little of everything.
There were winners and losers, tears and joys, scandals and triumphs and of course great feats. One of the biggest feats of the Summer Olympics of 2012 was the gold medal victory by the Mexican soccer team.
The whole world (except Mexico) was stunned when the Mexican team defeated the Brazilians who have the honor of being 5 times champion of World Cup. The final score was 2 to 1.
In addition to defeating a great team, the first goal made by the Mexican is one for the record books of the Summer Olympics. Oribe Peralta made the first goal in the first 29 seconds of the game. This was the fastest score in the history of Olympic soccer.
Even though, after the first goal, the Brazilian team put on an aggressive game, they lost. They had a variety of opportunities and many times they almost scored, but “almost” don’t count. Hulk, the Brazilian player, scored the first and only goal for his team close to the end of the game. Unfortunately it was too late.
This was a historic game for the Mexican team. In addition to establishing a record of the fastest goal in the history of the Olympics, this will be their first medal of any kind in this sport. Congratulations Mexico!
At the end of the Olympics the total medal count showed: USA won the most with a total medal count of 104 medals, 46 of which are gold. Second place belongs to China who has 88 medals and the third place went to Russia who has 83 medals. The next Summer Olympics will be in the year 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
