When you choose a gym or health club, you are essentially choosing a place that you want to go to everyday with an atmosphere that won’t get boring in the first few months. After you lift the weights and run the treadmills, you need a place that will offer more than just those things.

Fitness First Plus Health Club offers a wide variety of classes to choose from. One particular class, the Shake and Sway, combines a cardiovascular workout set to a choreographed dance set.

Nicknamed “the little guy with all the energy” by the people that don’t know his name, Instructor Dominic Nache originally did the class himself and then went and got certified and has been teaching it now for over two years. “It started off slow but then I got to add different aspects of dancing and that seems to be bringing in people and keeping them here.” explained Mr. Nache. With trends in music changing faster than his feet can move, Dominic credits YouTube as a big help in keeping things fresh and upbeat in his class. “Once I find a song I like, I think of a theme to put to it and see what types of steps go with it.” said Dominic.

As with any other form of working out, at some point you hit your wall and Dominic is ready and armed with the weapons to keep you going. “I pick up the intensity in the class or we’ll freestyle to a song,” explained Dominic. “We will also have shake off’s or dance off’s where one side of the room is against the other and that keeps it fun.” Dominic’s Shake and Sway class is a cardio class with a twist…literally. If you think it’s just another dance class, a surprise is definitely in store for you. “When you come to my class, you will leave dripping with sweat, not knowing where the hour went,” exclaimed Dominic. “Everyone is a little intimidated at first but give it a week and you will be hooked.”

Angie Miller’s official title is Fitness Director at Fitness First Plus but she wears many different hats throughout the day. With certifications in Yoga and Pilates to Team Cycling (Spinning) and Personal Training, Angie has a vast knowledge of information to share with everyone who comes through the door. At first glance, you probably wouldn’t have guessed that Angie struggled with her weight most of her life. About ten years ago Angie weighed around 230 lbs. She noticed within herself that this was not a healthy way of living and went on to lose over 100 pounds. “Having been overweight at one point in my life, I can relate to some of the people that are struggling with it now.” explained Ms. Miller. With so many different dynamics of people in the gym, Angie encourages everyone to go at their own level. “I like people to feel comfortable doing whatever they can when they start,” said Angie. “I always tell them that it will get easier.”

Making the decision to exercise can be very hard on its own and having people around you that are in great shape can be mentally frustrating, but Angie is there to assist anyone with whatever they need to get them to the physical level they want to be at. “Fitness is a way of life,” said Angie. “It’s a lifetime commitment but it feels good and you can only get good things from it.”
