Many of us live in our own worlds that consist of work, home, family and friends. Today’s life is very fast paced that does not leave us a lot of time for ourselves and surely we do not have time to worry about anything beyond our own little worlds.
We are confident that there always be someone else who will do it for us. Fortunately, not everyone is this way and there are still altruists that do think about the whole community and not only about their families.
Felipe Abraham is one of those extraordinary people. He worries about the whole community because, as he explains, all of us have families and community consists of families. This means that we are not only part of some particular family, but we are also part of a community. That is why we need to work together to make the whole community better.
Felipe Abraham is from Mexico. He studied philosophy in University of Mexico, but he immigrated to the US and could not finish his degree. When he came here he started to study at Black Hawk College in Moline. In addition, this man is very fortunate to have a wonderful family and a wife that supports him in everything.
Abraham teaches CPR at the American Red Cross in both Spanish and English. He believes that many accidents can be prevented. Simply, the community needs to be educated in how to do it. That is why he takes his job at the Red Cross very seriously. In addition to CPR for adults, children and infants, he also teaches how to use and control a defibrillator.
Felipe Abraham explains that his job in Red Cross is a lot more than just teaching CPR. “I try to teach people to prevent and reduce accidents on the job site, at home, at school and in a community,” Abraham explained. Unfortunately, studies show that Hispanics have more accidents that affect their health than any other ethnic group. That is why Felipe Abraham believes that it is time to teach people about accidents prevention.
He tries really hard to work with the community so people can learn to be better in all aspects of their lives. “There is no limit for the help that we can give to people. We have to adjust to every situation,” Abraham explains, “we need to be efficient, there is always room to be better and our community needs better standards.”
This altruist is always looking for more ways to make world better. That was one of his reasons why he enlisted in US Army. Felipe Abraham will leave for his first training on October 28 of this year. He plans to go on with his studies and get a degree. And since this man is an extraordinary person who lives with a dream of making a world better place for everyone, he plans to study medicine. “I want to help people feel less pain,” Abraham explains his choice of career.
Felipe Abraham is a great person. Importantly, he shows to all of us that it is not enough to want to change the world, one also have to act on it . It is not surprising that his favorite motto is the one of University of Mexico that says: “For my people, my spirit will talk.”
