In the women’s Olympic tournament, defending Olympic champion, the United States lost their best player – and possibly the gold medal – when Abby Wambach suffered a fracture on her left leg in an exhibition game against Brazil. The United States is with 2000 champion Norway, Japan, and New Zealand. Group E has China, Sweden, Argentina, and Canada. Group F has the former two time Women’s World Cup Champion Germany (which has never won the Olympics), North Korea, Nigeria and Brazil.
The two best teams in each group and the two best third place teams will play in the Quarterfinals. The games begin on Wednesday, August 6 and end with the final on Thursday, August 21.
