Our society is used to quick things and this desire to get results fast makes many people look for ways to get to their ideal weight fast. The desire to look like magazine cover models makes some people start strange diets that are many times dangerous for their health.

Desperation to lose weight makes people think that strange diets are logical and possible. One of the examples of this kind of strange diet is “eating air and sun.” Members of the organization called Breathers Institute of America believe that eating is an acquired habit and that is why it is possible to train the body to eat a little or nothing at all. According these people, air and sun are our primary form of existence and if we eat air and sun we will not only be slim and have lots of energy, but also we can be more in tune with the universe.

Another odd diet is to eat cabbage soup for a whole week, that supposedly will help you lose 10 pounds during that week. There are a lot of different variations of this diet. Some eat cabbage while others eat grapefruit or other fruits and vegetables.

A strange diet that is starting to become more and more popular among many people is the “Jesus Diet.” The followers of this diet assure that it cannot cause any harm because this was what Jesus ate. People who follow this diet have to eat all of their foods raw except for the meat. Also, one day of the week they do not eat anything at all. In addition, they eat only twice a day and eat no more than one or two pounds. In comparison with other diets this one seems a little healthier and more natural, but if people eat very little, specialists say they won’t have a lot of energy; therefore this diet is perfect for those who do not do many activities.

In addition to bizarre diets there are “miraculous pills” that promise to help you lose weight fast.  Did you know that every year in the United States people spend 30 billion dollars on different products that will supposedly help you lose weight? In their search for fast weight loss people believe that if they take these pills they will lose weight in a month or less.

Looking from another point of view, in addition to giving false promises, the vendors of these diet supplements do not advise people that some products can be harmful to your health. Some pills can develop an addiction and others can affect the heart, other body organs or the central nervous system. Also, some of these pills can cause a little inconvenience to those who take them. For example, Alli; it can cause problems with the intestines and diarrhea for those who take it. The Food and Drug Administration wants everyone to know that the miracle pill that can help you lose weight fast without causing health problems does not exist yet.

Together with numerous strange diets there’s also strange machines, in which the vendors assure will help you lose weight. The FDA warns that these machines are a waist of hard earned money and they do doubtful results including harming the body. In some extreme cases they produce electric shock and burns on the skin.

Finally, there is an unlimited number of weight loss programs that promise to help lose weight fast. Even though they may help, in the long run, many gain weight again and in some cases gain even more than before.

That is why before starting any diet, taking weight loss pills or starting any weight loss programs ask yourself the following questions:

►What are the health risks?
►What data can you show to prove that the program really works?
►Can one still stay slim even if he/she leaves the program?
►What is the price? Can health insurance pay any of the costs? Will I get my money back if a program or diet does not give me any results?
►Is their a maintenance program? Will I need to pay extra for it?
►Is there a professional help? Who are they and what are their credentials?
►What are the requirements for the program? Will there be special menus or special exercises?

There are a lot of products that promise to help you lose weight in a fast and safe way. But before you even buy those miracle pills or start “eating” air and sun, try to remember the following expert advice: avoid anything that promises fast results and will makes you follow a complicated regimen.

The key to losing weight is to have a balanced and healthy diet and do regular exercise.
