Cinco de Mayo is a fun way to celebrate Mexican culture. Although, this is not widely celebrated day in Mexico, in The United States many different events happen on this day. Here is a list of what will be happening Cinco de Mayo weekend in your area besides the typical Mexican Restaurant Fiestas.

Zumbathon for Al Exito

This event is open to public and the cost is $10 at the door. It supports Al Exito which is non-profit organization that helps Latinx students and their family members across the state of Iowa. Not only it provides after school programs for middle and high school students, it also offers family programs, summer camps college scholarships and even LGBTQ programs.

Food Truck Throw Down

Des Moines Social Club 5th Annual Food Truck Throw Down is only $5 to enter and it allows participants to check out food from more than 12 food trucks. Once you fill up with delicious street food stay for live music. Beverage tents, and art activities. This festival is recognition of Mexican community and Mexican heritage of railroad workers that helped James Jordan to make his vision of bringing railroad to Des Moines reality. There will be Mexican food to try, artwork, live music, family activities and even dancing.
