Fremont, NE — The Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that Christine Torres, the director of membership and development, has been honored with the prestigious 20 Under 40 award. This accolade is awarded to 20 individuals under the age of 40 in the Fremont and surrounding community who exemplify outstanding leadership.
Torres, 34, has significantly impacted the business community, particularly among Fremont’s historically underserved Hispanic and Spanish-speaking population of business owners. Since joining the Chamber in July 2022, she has been a driving force in connecting and supporting these business owners, fostering a more inclusive and united community.
In her role, Torres launched the Hispanic Council, a network of Hispanic business owners that offers support and camaraderie. “When I started here, I first kind of went out and talked to the existing chamber members that were Hispanic and Latino, and they had no idea all of the benefits that the chamber could offer to them,” Torres said. “That was really nice to do that, but then also that then grew the Hispanic and the Spanish-speaking memberships.”
Beyond her work at the Chamber, Torres founded the Spanish Networking Group, a platform providing support and connections for bilingual individuals in the area. This initiative has drawn attendees from across Nebraska and even neighboring states, highlighting the need for such spaces.
Earlier this year, Torres was honored with the DEIA Change Maker Award by the Greater Omaha Chamber, recognizing her contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the business community.
Christine Torres’s journey has been one of determination and resilience. Despite not having the privilege to attend college, her career with xtDirect, an international call center, provided her with invaluable experience and knowledge. She worked her way up to become a call center director, traveling the world to set up call centers in locations such as the Philippines, Jamaica, Brazil, and Costa Rica.
Her commitment to the community extends beyond her professional life. Torres and her husband, Alberto, have two daughters, ZaraNae and Khaleesi, and reside in West Point, Nebraska. She continues to build strong connections and support systems within the community, making Fremont a more inclusive and welcoming place for all.
Looking ahead, Torres hopes to see both the Fremont Hispanic Council and her Spanish Networking Group continue to grow and thrive. “I’m just happy with the change that I’ve seen from the time that I was at The Bridge to now,” she said. “It just seems more open.”
Christine Torres’s dedication and leadership are an inspiration, and the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce congratulates her on this well-deserved recognition.
