For the Alley Cat Boxing Club, the summer officially kicks off as Moline native and Coach Jeff Perez and his team of fighters host a night of fights for the community.  On Saturday, June 4th. Alley Cat Boxing Club presents: Battle in the Valley at the Rock Reception Facility in Coal Valley, IL.

This is the first time that Perez will not have his show at the Moline Community Center but the club’s positive reputation of putting on quality shows in the Quad Cities throughout the past years will carry over to this upcoming event.  “I’ve got a lot of good little fighters,” explained Perez.  “Some are just starting out and some have been around for a while and I’m happy with their progress.  Along with the long, vigorous training that comes with boxing, something that Perez also stresses to his students is the importance of school and being a good citizen in the community.  “I talk to the kids and we have a mutual deal where I respect them and they respect me.” said Perez.  To those who haven’t been to an Alley Cat show or any type of combat sporting show, Perez wants to put the negative notions you may have to rest.  “A lot people come out and see that the crowd is more family orientated and not the crowd you may see at an MMA event.” said Perez.

Sportsmanship is also top of the list for Perez and his fighters at his shows.  “No matter how the fight goes, afterwards both kids are going to shake the hand off the opponent and the opposing coach.”  Having been around for fourteen years, Perez has seen many faces come through his little gym in the garage and for those who think you need a big expensive gym to make champions, Perez’s results prove otherwise.  “We’ve had state and regional champions from the area come train here,” said Perez.  “We’ve also had UFC champions train here also.”  One in particular, Jens Pulver, will be a special guest at the event.
