Adan Ortiz returns to the ring this Friday, June 20, at “Fight Night” promoted by Chicago’s Hitz Boxing and Round 3 Productions at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Ortiz fights Heath Cline in a four round bantamweight contest. This is his third fight at the Chicago area casino.
Ortiz started boxing at the age of 10 in Sterling, IL. “I would fight my cousin in the yard all the time when we were little and when he joined a gym he brought me along.” He’s still training in the Sterling area under Al Silva at John Russell boxing gym. Ortiz developed an outstanding resume as an amateur, winning multiple Silver and Golden Glove championships during his 97 amateur boxing career.
Ortiz turned pro in 2012, fighting in the Chicago area and twice at Danceland Ballroom in Davenport, IA. His professional record is now 6-0, 5 KO’s. After a year layoff he is focused and looking forward to getting back to boxing this weekend, saying “I’m here to fight and win.”
Talking with Adan age 22, about being a pro boxer out of Sterling, Illinois he said “I love being a fighter from a small town. My family is here and I have a lot of support.” He became a father last year and is now raising a daughter in addition to boxing. “It gives me that extra will to win.”
Ortiz is very proud of his Mexican heritage. His parents are from San Marcos, Mexico and his favorite fighter is Juan Manuel Marquez. When asked who is his pick in the Canelo vs Lara fight, Ortiz said “Canelo. I root for the Mexican.”
