MIDWEST — Social Security payments will continue through the second half of October, while people who receive Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, will see another payment arrive before the month ends.
Most Social Security beneficiaries who began receiving benefits after April 1997 are scheduled for payments on Oct. 14, Oct. 21 or Oct. 28, depending on the birth date associated with the benefit.
SSI recipients were paid on Oct. 1 and are scheduled to receive another SSI payment on Friday, Oct. 30. The Oct. 30 deposit is not an extra benefit or bonus: it is the November SSI payment arriving early because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday.
The schedule applies nationwide, including beneficiaries in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and other Midwest states.
Social Security payments are scheduled for Oct. 14, 21 and 28
For most people who began receiving Social Security benefits after April 30, 1997, the payment date depends on the birthday of the person whose earnings record is used for the benefit.
| Birth date | October 2026 payment date |
|---|---|
| 1st through 10th | Wednesday, Oct. 14 |
| 11th through 20th | Wednesday, Oct. 21 |
| 21st through 31st | Wednesday, Oct. 28 |
The Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment calendar lists those dates as the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of October.
Some Social Security beneficiaries were paid Oct. 2
A different schedule applies to people who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 and to some people who receive both Social Security and SSI.
Those Social Security benefits are normally paid on the third day of the month. Because Oct. 3 fell on a Saturday in 2026, the payment was moved to Friday, Oct. 2.
People who receive both Social Security and SSI generally receive SSI on the first of the month and their Social Security benefit on the third, with payments moved earlier when the scheduled date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.
SSI recipients will receive the November payment on Oct. 30
SSI is normally paid on the first day of the month. When the first falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, Social Security sends the payment on the previous business day.
Because Nov. 1, 2026, is a Sunday, the SSI payment for November will be issued on Friday, Oct. 30.
That creates two SSI payment dates during October:
- Oct. 1: the regular SSI payment for October.
- Oct. 30: the SSI payment for November, issued early.
The early payment does not increase the total number of monthly SSI benefits a person receives. There will not be another regular SSI payment on Nov. 1.
The Oct. 30 SSI deposit is not a bonus payment
Receiving two SSI deposits during the same calendar month can make it appear that beneficiaries are receiving an additional payment, but the change is only the result of the federal payment calendar.
Social Security follows the same rule whenever the first day of a month falls on a weekend or legal federal holiday.
The agency’s benefit payment schedule also allows beneficiaries to review upcoming and past payment dates through their Social Security account.

SSA recommends waiting three mailing days for a missing payment
If a scheduled Social Security or SSI payment does not arrive on the expected date, the agency advises allowing three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.
Social Security can be reached at 1-800-772-1213. Automated payment information is available by phone, and individual payment information is also available through a personal Social Security account.
The next regular Social Security payments in October are scheduled for Oct. 14, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28. The early November SSI payment follows on Oct. 30.
