IOWA CITY, Iowa — Spanish poet Luis Muñoz will read from his bilingual collection One Moment Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City.
The reading begins at 7 p.m. at 15 S. Dubuque St. The collection presents Muñoz’s poems in their original Spanish alongside English translations by Idra Novey and Garth Greenwell.
One Moment marks Muñoz’s North American publishing debut. The collection was released May 12 and grew out of his 2024 Spanish-language book Un momento.
Muñoz also has a direct connection to Iowa City: he is an associate professor at University of Iowa and directs its MFA in Spanish Creative Writing.
The reading begins at 7 p.m. at Prairie Lights
The Sept. 16 event runs from 7 to 8 p.m. at Prairie Lights Books, 15 S. Dubuque St., in downtown Iowa City.
Muñoz will read from One Moment, and Garth Greenwell will also take part in the evening program.

‘One Moment’ presents Muñoz’s poems in Spanish and English
The collection places the original Spanish poems alongside English translations by Idra Novey and Garth Greenwell.
The book focuses on relationships, solitude, time and everyday moments, moving between friends, lovers and changing places. Washington Square Press published the North American edition in May 2026.
In addition, One Moment marks the first North American collection by Muñoz, whose work includes seven poetry books.
Muñoz directs Iowa’s MFA in Spanish Creative Writing
Muñoz divides his time between Madrid and Iowa City. At University of Iowa, he serves as associate professor and director of the MFA in Spanish Creative Writing.
The university created the program in 2012. Students complete workshops in poetry and fiction written in Spanish as part of the 48-credit graduate degree.
Muñoz was born in Granada, Spain, and has received literary honors including the Ciudad de Córdoba, Generación del 27 and Ojo Crítico prizes.
