NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa — Northbound Interstate 380 will close overnight at Penn Street in North Liberty from 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15.
During the closure, northbound traffic will leave the interstate and use the Penn Street ramps at Exit 4 before returning to I-380.
The Iowa Department of Transportation plans the closure as part of ongoing construction at the Penn Street interchange. However, weather conditions could change the schedule.
The closure applies to the northbound lanes at Penn Street. Iowa DOT has not announced a corresponding overnight closure of the southbound mainline for this work.

The closure begins late Monday night and continues into early Tuesday morning. As a result, drivers traveling north through North Liberty will encounter the detour at Exit 4 during that period.
Penn Street remains the key access point for the detour. Traffic will use the interchange ramps rather than continue through the closed northbound section.
Iowa DOT lists the work as weather permitting. Therefore, rain or other conditions that affect construction could change the timing.

Penn Street construction is part of the larger I-380 reconstruction
The Penn Street interchange is undergoing reconstruction as part of a larger Iowa DOT project along I-380 between the I-80 area and U.S. 30.
The southern section includes reconstruction and widening of I-380 from north of I-80 to north of Swan Lake Road, along with improvements at the Penn Street interchange. Iowa DOT currently lists that portion of the project on a schedule running from January 2024 through spring 2027.
Other sections of the corridor also include construction near Wright Brothers Boulevard in Cedar Rapids.
