Soul of the City will return to Rock Island on Saturday, Sept. 5. The free outdoor festival will feature live entertainment, food vendors, family activities and a community parade.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Franklin Field, located at 1251 9th St. Admission is free, and the celebration is open to the public.
Nearly 5,000 people attended in 2025. As a result, Soul of the City ranked among Rock Island’s largest annual community celebrations.
The Soul of the City parade starts at 10 a.m.
The day will begin with the Soul of the City Parade at 10 a.m. The parade will leave Frances Willard Elementary School, near 25th Avenue and 9th Street.
From there, participants will travel north on 9th Street. The route will end at Franklin Field, where the rest of the festival will take place.
Funktastic 5 will return to the live entertainment lineup. In addition, the festival grounds will have food and merchant vendors. Community resource booths and activities for children and families will also be available.
The Martin Luther King Center organizes the annual event as a community block party. The celebration focuses on Rock Island’s cultures, neighborhoods and families.
