Virtual Community Baby Shower for the Rock Island County Area

MeridianHealth partnered up with Familia Dental-Moline and The Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley to co-sponsor a Community Baby Shower for the Rock Island County Area.  

“We are very excited to be hosting this event to serve those in need in the community especially given the impacts of COVID-19 and those who may need extra support at this time,” Myriea Amaya, Community Relations Coordinator from Meridian, said. “This event is a hybrid, both virtual and drive up with the purpose of providing fun and engaging event while social distancing with the intention of providing vital information for new and expecting families. This is the first time we have put together this event in the Rock Island area, and part of a series of other baby showers we have put together in other regions throughout the state.”  

The Virtual Part of the Baby Shower will be done through the Zoom app. There will be webinars on Saturday, October 10 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Any new and expecting families can stream this live content on their preferred device. Those interested in this virtual event do not need to have a Zoom account, but they need to pre-register because only 50 spots are available. Interested families can pre-register with Familia Dental.

During the virtual event the following topics will be discussed: SIDS, Prenatal and Postnatal Care presented by Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois, Inc. (SIDS), Information on the proper use of car seats and booster seats for parents and guardians presented by Northwestern Medicine, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), oral health for mothers and infants presented by Familia Dental, gestational diabetes and how it affects pregnancy and the baby’s health presented by Jewel-Osco pharmacy, baby blues or postpartum awareness presented by MeridianHealth, Behavioral Health Department.

 “If event attendees have questions for any of the presenters, they will be able to ask those questions via the Q&A function through Zoom which will be monitored by MeridianHealth during the event and shared with the presenters for a Q&A at the end of their individual portion,” Ms. Amaya explained how participants of this virtual event can better engage with the presenters. “Polls will also be utilized to engage with the moms, as well as provide an opportunity for them to be entered in raffles for prizes including Car Seats & Cribettes.”  

For the Drive-Up Giveaway and Prize distribution of the event, the participants will have to stay in their vehicles and walk-ins will not be allowed. The distribution will take place at the parking lot of The Boys and Girls Club located at 338 6th St., Moline, IL on Sunday, October 11 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There will be traffic volunteers to direct families through this distribution.

“Event attendees are to stay in their vehicles at all times, unless they are recipients of the Car Seat raffle prize & must demonstrate to the IDOT Traffic Safety & Child Passenger Safety Technicians that they can properly install the car seat (either on the demo seat or within their vehicle, whichever they decide to choose),” Ms. Amaya urged the participants to follow the rules while explaining the Giveaway portion of the Community Baby Shower.  “Attendees will receive a free goodie bag with health information and giveaways from our various partners including Familia Dental, SIDS of IL, IDOT, Jewel-Osco Pharmacy pop up flu shot clinic (covered with most insurance), Hiney Heroes (diaper distribution), Women, Infant & Children, and MeridianHealth.” 

 

The Community Baby shower is open to new and expecting mothers and community. Registration for this event is required. Anyone interested in participating in this event can register by contacting Tenisha DeRoin at Familia Dental by calling her at (309) 429-0958 on Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
