Siriaco “Siricasso” Garcia recently painted a mural with a scene from “One Piece” at Hoover High School in Des Moines. The mural was painted by Siriaco “Siricasso” Garcia, an artist who has been featured in Register’s People to Watch in 2024 and the Business Record’s Forty Under 40 2024 class.
Hoover’s principal commissioned Garcia to paint a mural of her favorite scene in “One Piece.” Originally meant to be just the scene itself, Garcia decided to add a large portrait of Luffy, the main character, to bring it all together.
“I’m honestly blown away by all the love this mural has been getting,” Garcia told the Register.

“I would’ve been so excited to pull up to my school and see my favorite anime on a wall like this,” he said in an Instagram post.
Commenters online noted that the image of Luffy is from a scene declaring war against the government.
Garcia told the Register he hadn’t watched the show before creating the mural. He began watching it with his family and said it “is easily one of the best anime ever created.”
Who’s ‘Siricasso,’ the artist behind the One Piece mural in Des Moines?
Garcia took a childhood riddled with domestic violence and turned it into an adulthood channeling himself through painting. He is now a teaching artist at the Des Moines Art Center and works with programs at Woodward Academy and Mainframe Studios, according to his Business Record biography.
He has also painted a mural at McKinnley Elementary School this year. The “One Piece” mural is the fourth he’s created for Hoover High School.
