Never have we had a more of an opportunity to show our strength than with our power at the ballot box. The Latino vote will decide who the next president will be in 2016, and it starts here in Iowa on Feb. 1. The Iowa Caucuses are the first step in deciding who will receive the Democratic and Republican nomination for president.Â

We have an obligation to those who have carved the path for us and given us the right to participate in the Democratic process, as well as for future generations of Latinos, to participate in the Iowa Caucuses. Latinos from across the state, regardless if you are a Republican or a Democrat, must go to your precinct caucus at 7 p.m. Feb. 1. You must make your voice heard.Â
If we don’t participate in the caucuses, then everyone else decides for us what issues are important to our community and which candidates will address those issues. Caucus night will be an opportunity for Latinos to make their choice for the candidate who they believe will represent the interests of our community. Important issues will be discussed on caucus night, and you must be present into order to be part of that discussion.
The League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa has embarked upon the Latino Vote Iowa caucus campaign to help our community understand the caucus process and become comfortable with it. You don’t have to be a party insider to participate. This guide is intended to help answer any questions you may have and provide you with more information. Our community will make history in Iowa with your help. More than 54 million Latinos in America will be watching what we do in Iowa. They will follow our lead. I urge you to prepare for a night of democracy and attend your precinct caucus. We have the power to help make real change.
