As the cannon smoke has settled from the Freedom Run last week, local Race Director, Joe Moreno can now focus all his energy on his biggest and final race event of the year, the TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon.

In its twenty-seventh year, Moreno is excited to give runners from all over the nation, the two-day event they have grown to love over the years with just a couple of changes to day one. “A big change this year is the venue change,” said Moreno. “All of Saturday’s festivities; packet pick up, the mile, the kid’s races, are going to be down at Bass Street Landing.” Sunday’s ½ and full marathon will stay the same, starting and ending at Vibrant Arena.

As Moreno is the Race Director for some of the area’s largest running events such as; Ganzo’s Cinco de Mayo 5K, The Genesis Firecracker Run and most recently, The Trinity Freedom Run, he is confident that this year’s event will be just as big if not bigger than last year based off of numbers from those events. “A good litmus test is the participation from three of the races I’ve helped organize this year,” explained Moreno. “They were all back to normal pre-covid numbers.”

With events and races for kids, walkers, joggers and runners, Moreno takes pride in being able to continue to help bring the area’s premiere running event to downtown Moline. “We get a lot of compliments on the course, just running along the river, over the river and the island,” said Moreno. “It’s going to be a good race with something for everyone.”
