A first-time Storm Lake event is being planned as a celebration of the diverse and unique cultures that are rooted in the community. The Storm Lake Proud Multicultural Festival Sept. 10 in Chautauqua Park will include music, dance, food and traditions from countries all over the world.
We’re asking people and groups from any of the approximately 35 cultural backgrounds represented in the community to come out and join the event,” said SLU Executive Director Breanna Horsey. “What they share could take many different forms – food, art, crafts, music, dance, sports, poetry, storytelling, history, performers of all kinds. We would like to hear people’s ideas for a family-friendly event that we can continue to grow in the future.”
Groups and individuals that would like to get involved should call Storm Lake United at 732-3780 or email [email protected]
The Multicultural Festival will run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Everyone is welcome, admission is free. Tentative plans call for a ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m. for the soccer pitch in the park, with events there continuing into the afternoon.
The Multicultural Festival is being co-sponsored by the City of Storm Lake.
